COVID-19 RESOURCES FOR ARTISTS AND ORGANIZATIONS

Unemployment Benefits from the Texas Workforce Commission and the Federal Government. Visit the Texas Workforce website for more information and applications.

Recently the SBA opened up the Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program (EIDL) to independent contractors, freelancers, and gig workers. Self-employed individuals are eligible to receive a $1,000 forgivable loan advance/grant via direct deposit in addition to a line of credit with a 30 year maturity term and an interest rate around 3% (basically a pretty kick ass emergency loan that might come in handy in the coming year that you’re not required to spend). Nonprofits and other businesses are also eligible for these funds and larger forgivable grant amounts. The deadline for PPP loan applications has been extended through August 8th, 2020. Get in touch with your bank and ask how you can apply. Self-employed individuals ARE ELIGIBLE for PPP funds which are forgivable as long as you use them to pay yourself and for business expenses such a studio or shop rent, home office, etc. You will need to have completed your tax form 1040 (Schedule C) along with some other documents the bank will request along with the application. Information and applications about these programs can be found on the SBA website.
