APPLY FOR COMMUNITY INITIATIVES FISCAL SPONSORSHIP

Co-Lab Projects provides fiscal sponsorship for individual artists and other unincorporated organizations wishing to apply for Austin's Community Initiatives (CI) grant. Eligible project activities include the artist/administrator fees, marketing, venue rental, and insurance costs for a public performance or exhibition open to the public.

First-time CI applicants are eligible to apply for up to $3,000, and second-time applicants are eligible to apply for up to $4,000. City recommends that CI funds should be used primarily to pay artists. Co-Lab Projects charges a flat 10%-of-award fee for fiscal sponsorship.

Make sure to thoroughly read the CI guidelines here. Once completed, fill out the application below, and we'll get in touch with you ASAP!

The CI budget requires a half match, half of which can be in-kind. For example, if you receive a $4,000 grant, you will need to provide at least a $2,000 match. At least $1,000 of this needs to be cash (and can come from sources such as door fees, merchandise sales, etc.) and up to $1,000 can be in-kind (fair price of donated event space, donated administrator time, donated materials, etc.). Can you provide this match for your project? *
Required for eligibility.

Co-Lab Projects charges a flat 10%-of-award fee on awarded funds, if you are awarded funds do you agree to this fee? *
What you get for this fee: -Fiscal sponsorship for your project -At least two close reads with suggestions of your grant application and budget -Assistance with the application/reporting process in Zoomgrants (the city's online grant portal) -Inclusion of your events in the Co-Lab Projects newsletter
And finally, full disclosure: it is possible to apply for Community Initiatives directly with the city. This may work better for some folks, and more power to you if that’s the case. The main note we’ll offer is that if you apply directly, your grant award will be taxed, and depending on your income bracket, that tax will be somewhere between 12-24% of your award amount. As for us, we think having Co-Lab as your fiscal sponsor offers lots of benefits and support, or else we wouldn’t be doing it! We’re happy to answer any questions you have about this or anything else, and we look forward to hearing more about your project.
